Some of the Best Surf Spots in the world are located in Hawaii, and yes, some are on Kauai. Most of the locations are known by their "local" names so you may have to ask someone where any of these particular spots are,.............. once you learn the names (see the bottom of this page).

                                                      Davidson on strong South-East Winds
                                                      Salt Pond on light East Winds

                                   South Side: Mahaulepu on Trade Winds

                                   East Side:    Lydgate on South-East Winds
                                                      Makaiwa on North Winds

                                   North Side: Anini for Beginners
                                                       Hanalei on West Winds
                                                      Y Camp on East Winds

For Board Surfing: Catch a Wave ....... and your sittin on top of the world !!!

                                   Naturally, it all depends on the surf at the time.
                                   The general rule for Kauai Surfers is Hanalai
                                   in the Winter and Pakalas in the Summer.

For Body Surfing: Get the "Real" feeling of what it takes to catch a wave !!!!
                                   West Side: Barking Sands ... Sand Bars when small surf

                                   South Side: Shipwrecks in Poipu

                                   East Side: Kealia, preferably at high tide.
                                                         Watch for them rocks at low tide

                                   North Side: Anahola
                                                      Hanalei ... Sand Bars when small surf

CAUTION:

The Oceans around Kauai can have very strong currents. Many times the waves come in sets that include some very large irregular waves within these sets. In some locations the waves break very close to shore (shorebreaks). Some waves break where there is rock or coral just below the surface. People have drowned due to their lack of knowledge and/or disregard of these powerful elements. Anyone that gets involved with ocean activities needs to be very careful and it is recommended that they have experience with such activities. Anyone that is inexperienced in any of these ocean sports needs to obtain knowledge and awareness prior to involvement. On Kauai there are a number of instructors or guides that will assist you (usually for a fee). Locate them and learn from them .... it is well worth it !!
